Bosch 10H FAQs
What is the difference between the Bosch 10H and the Bosch 10P?
Both units deliver 10 litres of hot water per minute and share the same physical dimensions (845mm H x 405mm W x 265mm D), but they use completely different ignition systems. The 10P uses a standing pilot light — a small gas flame that is always burning — which requires no electricity or batteries. The 10H uses HydroPower ignition, which generates the energy needed to start the burner from the flow of water itself. This means the 10H has no pilot light, no electricity requirement, and no batteries. The 10H is the more modern design and is available in both natural gas and LPG variants. The 10P is natural gas only.
Does the Bosch 10H work with LPG (bottled gas)?
Yes. The Bosch 10H is available in both a natural gas variant and an LPG variant. This makes it the correct choice for Perth properties not connected to the reticulated gas network, including rural properties, homes in areas without gas mains, and some older or renovated properties that rely on LPG bottles. When booking with Ember, please confirm your gas supply type so the correct variant is ordered. Installing a natural gas unit on an LPG connection (or vice versa) will result in unsafe operation and will void the warranty.
What is HydroPower ignition and does it need any power source?
HydroPower is Bosch’s proprietary ignition technology that uses the kinetic energy of water flowing through the unit to generate the small amount of electricity needed to ignite the burner. When you open a hot tap, the water flow spins a micro-turbine inside the unit, which creates the ignition spark. No batteries, no power point, and no standing pilot light are needed. Once the tap is closed, the burner shuts off completely. The practical benefit is lower running costs compared to a pilot ignition model and zero reliance on electricity.
How many people and bathrooms does the Bosch 10H suit?
Like the 10P, the Bosch 10H is rated at 10 litres per minute and is best suited to 1-2 person households with a single bathroom. It is a common choice for units, granny flats, home offices with a bathroom, or investment properties where simplicity and low running costs are priorities. For households with two bathrooms or higher simultaneous demand, the Bosch 16H is the appropriate next step up.
What does the Bosch 10H warranty cover?
The Bosch 10H carries the same warranty structure as the broader Bosch pilot and HydroPower range: 2 years parts and labour for domestic installations, and 10 years on the heat exchanger. The 10-year heat exchanger warranty is Bosch’s headline commitment to the longevity of the unit’s most critical component. The warranty requires the unit to be installed by a licensed plumber and gas fitter in accordance with Bosch’s installation guidelines and Australian Standard AS/NZS 5601. Ember’s licensed team ensures all installations meet these requirements.
Is the Bosch 10H more energy efficient than the Bosch 10P?
Both models carry the same 4.6-star energy rating and consume approximately 79-82 MJ/h of gas at full operation. The practical difference is that the 10P has a standing pilot light that burns continuously at a low rate even when you are not using hot water, which adds a small but ongoing gas cost. The 10H has no pilot light and uses no energy at all when idle, making it marginally more efficient in households where hot water use is intermittent or where the system sits idle for periods of the day.
