Rheem 12 FAQs
What makes the Rheem 12 stand out from the Bosch 10P at a similar price point?
The Rheem 12 costs $1,299 installed versus $1,249 for the Bosch 10P, but delivers several meaningful differences. The Rheem 12 provides 12 litres per minute compared to the Bosch 10P’s 10L/min, giving a little more headroom for simultaneous use. More significantly, the Rheem 12 comes with a 12-year heat exchanger warranty versus the Bosch 10P’s 10-year heat exchanger warranty, and Rheem/Vulcan products installed by Ember receive an additional 2-year extended warranty through Ember’s partnership, making the effective warranty cover stronger. The Rheem range is also made in Japan, which is a quality signal that many Perth homeowners consider.
Does the Rheem 12 have a 6-star energy rating?
Yes. The Rheem Metro range including the 12L model carries a 6-star energy rating, which places it in the highest tier for gas continuous flow systems currently available in Australia. A 6-star unit uses less gas per litre of hot water produced compared to lower-rated systems, which reduces ongoing running costs. Rheem’s Q Factor technology helps achieve this by improving hot water delivery at start-up and reducing the volume of cold water that is flushed before hot water arrives at the tap.
Who is the Rheem 12 best suited to?
The Rheem 12 is ideal for 1-2 person households with a single bathroom — units, granny flats, small townhouses, and investment properties. At 12L/min it handles one shower comfortably and still has capacity left over for a basin tap running simultaneously. Ember’s team frequently recommends the Rheem 12 for rental property owners seeking a reliable, low-maintenance system with a strong warranty at a competitive installed price.
What is Ember's extended warranty offer on the Rheem 12?
From 1 August 2022, Ember Plumbing & Gas has provided a 2-year extended warranty on all Rheem and Vulcan products installed by Ember. This is in addition to the standard Rheem manufacturer warranty, which for the Rheem 12 includes a 12-year heat exchanger warranty and 3 years parts and labour on other components for domestic installations. The extended warranty is provided by Ember and means your total warranty coverage is effectively enhanced beyond what you would receive purchasing through another installer. No conditions or additional cost apply.
Does the Rheem 12 come pre-set to a particular temperature?
Yes. Rheem Metro continuous flow systems are factory pre-set to 50°C, which is the recommended maximum temperature for household hot water delivery to most outlets under Australian standards, specifically to reduce the risk of scalding. Where kitchen or laundry outlets require hotter water, for example, for commercial dishwashers, Rheem also offers a 60°C preset model. For most Perth households, the standard 50°C pre-set model is the appropriate choice. A tempering valve is typically required by WA plumbing regulations to be fitted at the outlet for bathroom and ensuite hot water points.
Can the Rheem 12 be used with LPG?
The standard Rheem 12 model stocked by Ember is configured for natural gas (reticulated piped gas). Rheem does produce LPG-compatible variants of its continuous flow range, but the natural gas model cannot be converted on site, the correct model must be ordered from the outset. If your property runs on LPG, please confirm this when booking so Ember can source the correct variant. The physical dimensions and installation process are the same across both gas types.
